Illocutionary Act of Main Character in Maleficent Movie Directed by Robert Stromberg
ABSTRACT
In this research, the researcher discussed the use of Illocutionary Acts in
the utterance of main character in Maleficent movie. The aims of this research
were to find out the context and classification of Illocutionary Acts used in
Maleficent movie, and to understand the interpretation of the dialogue between
speaker and hearer that use Illocutionary acts which are selected by the researcher.
The research is conducted by using qualitative research method. The researcher
collects the data from the script, then describes contexts and classification of
Illocutionary Acts. Based on the theories provided, the data are analyzed one by
one to know the context and types of illocutionary acts used. In this research, the
researcher analyzed the context as one of aspect of the speech situations. The
context is significant to describe the situation where illocutionary act of utterances
occur. The researcher found total of 25 sample of Maleficent utterances that
indicate as the types of illocutionary act. They are 3 declarations (declaring), 6
representatives (explaining, informing, asserting, concluding),
3expressives(praising, stating courage, stating dislike), 11 directives (requesting,
commanding, asking, ordering) and 2commisives(refusing, swearing).
