Archetype Analysis of Main Character in Dolittle Film

The Dolittle film is a film that tells the story of an adventure in search of the Eden tree on a mysterious island that no one has ever found. The Eden tree fruit's water cures various diseases. The Dolittle film is interesting because the main character in the film, Dr. Dolittle, is a very famous veterinarian, and has the unusual ability to talk to animals. This research aims to look at the archetype representation of Dr. Dolittle in the Dolittle film. The researcher reveals the process of how archetype theory is represented by the main character Dr. Dolittle using archetype theory by Carl Jung. This research data was taken from dialogue related to Dr. Dolittle in the Dolittle film. This research uses a qualitative research method by Creswell which explores and understands the meaning of individuals or groups of people originating from social problems. This research reveals the types of archetypes persona, shadow, anima, and self. The conclusion that can be drawn from the film Dolittle is that the persona and self archetypes are the archetypes most often found in the main character, he always shows a good personality to other characters and then at the end of the film he has the goal of returning to who he was before.

Film Dolittle adalah film yang menceritakan kisah petualangan untuk mencari pohon eden di sebuah pulau misterius yang tidak pernah ditemukan siapapun. Air buah pohon Eden menyembuhkan berbagai macam penyakit. Film Dolittle menarik karena pemeran utama pada film yaitu Dr. Dolittle adalah dokter hewan yang sangat terkenal, dan memiliki kemampuan yang tidak biasa, ia dapat berbicara kepada hewan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk melihat representasi arketipe dari Dr. Dolittle di film Dolittle. Peneliti mengungkap proses bagaimana teori arketipe direpresentasikan oleh tokoh utama Dr. Dolittle dengan menggunakan teori arketipe oleh Carl Jung. Data penelitian ini diambil dari dialog yang berkaitan Dr. Dolittle di film Dolittle. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode penelitian kualitatif oleh Creswell yang menggali dan memahami makna individu atau kelompok orang yang bersumber dari permasalahan sosial. Penelitian ini mengungkap jenis arketipe yaitu persona, shadow, anima, dan self. Kesimpulan yang dapat diambil dari film Dolittle adalah arketipe persona dan diri merupakan arketipe yang paling sering ditemukan pada karakter utama, dia selalu menunjukkan kepribadian yang baik kepada karakter lain dan kemudian pada akhir film ia memilki tujuan untuk kembali seperti dirinya dulu.
